From the 23rd – 27th February Josh Caplin (32), his father, Bob and brother in-law, Stephen Goldman will be taking on the #92in92 Challenge to visit all of the UK’s football league clubs in just 92 hours. The men hope to raise more than £9,200 which will be split between Chai Cancer Care and North London Hospice in memory of their beloved mum and wife Roz Caplin.
Read Josh’s story below in his own words:
“My Mum, Roz Caplin, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2007. She underwent various operations and rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the 2.5 years she battled the illness. Both Chai and North London Hospice were very supportive to us as a family.
My father, brother in-law and I have always been keen football fans and enjoy travelling to different grounds when we have the opportunity to see Leyton Orient (Josh and Bob) or Sunderland (Stephen) play! I was aware that there is a 92 club for fans who have seen a game at every league stadium but then came across a group who completed the 92in92 challenge to visit all the grounds in 92 hours. This seemed a great way to combine both our passion for football with our strong desire to raise valuable funds for both Chai Cancer Care and North London Hospice in order to give something back to these two charities, as we mark the 10th anniversary of my Mum’s passing.
The challenge includes all the teams in the Premier League (20), Championship (24), League One (24) and League Two (24). Even though Bury were thrown out of the league earlier in the season, we are still including them in the 92! We’ll be going to the South West (Plymouth Argyle) up to Carlisle United in the North and everything else in between (including a few clubs in Wales). My Dad has worked tirelessly planning the route, using an online mapping company (to optimize a route to multiple locations) and also by discussing with the current world record holders of the 92in92 challenge about their chosen route (we don’t expect to compete with their 63 hour effort!).
We are delighted that Spaceships Rentals are supporting our challenge by donating the use of a motorhome for the duration of the challenge. It can sleep 4 adults and comes equipped with underfloor heating, shower room and toilet, kitchen space and oven a fridge, freezer and TV and DVD player. This has been a significant help when planning the logistics as it removed the need to find overnight accommodation at various stop points.”
