Even Hurricane Humberto couldn’t deter Chai supporters raising £48,000 at the Chai Society Rosh Hashanah Gift Sale

Back by popular demand for its sixth year, the highly anticipated Rosh Hashanah Gift Sale delivered the “Wow” factor as more than 1000 shoppers braved the torrential rain and filled Chai’s flagship centre in Hendon to indulge in some pre-Rosh Hashanah retail therapy.

“The atmosphere was so wonderful throughout the event and Julia and I will never forget it.”

Debra Zender: Chai’s Co-Chair

With over 30 stalls tempting buyers with an eclectic mix of homeware, jewellery, fresh and silk flowers, chic millinery and so much more, the event, meticulously planned and expertly run by the Chai Society Committee, raised over £48,000 for Chai’s specialised cancer support services.

Throughout the day shoppers were able to relax and refuel with tasty homemade snacks and refreshments at our very own ‘Chaibucks Café’. There was also the opportunity to buy jewellery, lovingly made by the members of the Chai Jewellery Workshop.

On behalf of the Chai Society Committee, Co-Chair Debra Zender said: “This was our 6th annual gift sale and my co-chair, Julia Abrams and I really didn’t know what to expect, especially with Hurricane Humberto looming! However, once again we have been completely overwhelmed by the incredible support as over 1000 visitors did their RH gift shopping at the Chai Centre. This show of support reflects how strongly Chai is regarded and valued within our community.

We would like to thank Roundtree Real Estates and Tony Page for gifting 500 delicious honey cakes. We’d also like to thank Harts Marquees too and all the stall holders who gave a percentage of their takings on the day. This event could never have happened without their generosity and for that we are so grateful.

The atmosphere was so wonderful throughout the event and Julia and I will never forget it.”

Chai’s Chairman, Louise Hager, said: “So many months of planning and attention to detail goes into this event and it is wonderful that all the committee’s dedication, hard work and commitment meant we could raise the fantastic amount of £48,000. As the need for Chai continues relentlessly, there was much davening for the event’s hatzlocho, with the unexpected weather conditions, so we truly recognise Hashem’s guiding hand in all that we do.”
