On Wednesday 13th May, 84 households from around the world tuned in to Zoom for a cookery masterclass in aid of Chai Cancer Care led by chef Ed Shaerf who has worked with many culinary luminaries including Gordan Ramsey and Yotam Ottolenghi amongst others.
With all the participants virtually connecting, there was an upbeat and jovial atmosphere as Ed guided everyone step by step to cook up a delicious three course meal using simple ingredients.
The feedback was fantastic and so positive, with many people sharing the pictures of the dishes they created on the evening. As one participant put it,
“Well done for a great evening Chai, Such a wonderful idea. The kids all got involved and devoured the three courses! Would love you to do that again another time!”
The event was part of Chai’s annual fundraising incentive ‘A Week for Chai’ where supporters took part in a range of innovative and creative activities all within social distancing measures.
From a variety of quizzes, poker tournaments, long distance running, bingo nights, pizza making and more, close to £10,000 was raised.
Despite Chai’s centres being closed due to Covid-19, Chai is continuing to provide their much needed specialised support services and care through telephone, Skype and Zoom.
As Chai’s chairman Louise Hager put it:
“Cancer does not stop for Covid-19 and neither does Chai. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has taken part in ‘A Week for Chai’ and for all their generosity which helps ensure that Chai’s big C of Care can continue and make a tangible difference to all who turn to us.”
