“By running the 2021 Manchester Marathon we were delighted to have raised £5,060 for Chai.
We were supposed to be in Boston as Lauren had qualified to be able to run the Boston Marathon and to earn her long sought after 6 Star World Major Marathon Medal but due to travel restrictions that wasn’t possible.
The Manchester Marathon was really a plan B option.
A kind and generous sponsor/supporter made me an offer a few days before I could not refuse, if both Lauren and I ran the Manchester Marathon for a charity of our choice – luckily not together as Lauren is simply too fast for me these days !
We chose Chai Cancer Care, with whom we have had a long and happy association with, from running for Chai in the early days, to my late Mum, Valerie Barr, who was a long-time volunteer, to both Mum and I being taken care of whilst we were going through our respective Cancers and after too.
We were honoured to be the sole representatives for Chai.
As a result of our fundraising running efforts, we have been able to raise over £110,000 for charity as a family (which includes our 3 children) since 2010.”
