Team Chai raised over £13,000 at the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run!

More than 100 runners, many of whom have had personal experience of Chai’s support, eagerly took part in the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run on Sunday 25^th June. The event, which has raised more than £13,000 so far for Chai, was a huge success once again.  

Energetic and committed Chai participants ranging in age from 2 years old to 70, dusted off their running shoes to take part in the 10K, 5K and1K distances.

Mother and son duo Hayley & Ollie Grant took part in the 5k run. Ollie was chosen to open the Fun Run with VIP; Debbie Rose, as Chai had the most runners. Ollie said: “I feel inspired by people who run for charity so wanted to try it myself. I am running for Chai as my mum and auntie work there and I know it is a great charity that helps lots of people.”

The Wohlman family took part this year with Matan (8) and Roni (6) and mum, Odette, running the 1k event and Odette, Alan, Libbi (12) and Shoshana (11) taking on the 5k run. Matan and Roni said: “On the 20th June 2022, Mummy had her final Chemotherapy treatment and has spent months in recovery. Mummy now has a full head of hair, which looks like a big microphone! Each day Mummy has reminders of what the chemotherapy did to her body and has to pace herself with everything she does. It was very important for us all to participate as a family, as this is an opportunity to say thank you to the wonderful charity Chai Cancer Care, who Chai has supported all of us since mummy’s cancer diagnosis in Chanukah 2021.”

The Glasser family also took part this year with Lucinda, Martin, Tsofia (11) and Ashira (9) running the 5k event and Azriella (13) and Amitai (4), taking part in the 1k run. They said: “In the past year since Lucinda’s cancer diagnosis, Chai has been a constant source of help and support. They have given us so much we want to give something back to them.”

Following the event, Lucy Hayim, Chai Community & Corporate Fundraiser, said: “We were blown away by all our runners! It was so fantastic that Chai had the highest number of runners this year, which shows how so many in the community support Chai. A huge thank you for braving the heat and supporting Chai in this way.”
