The Milaric Maxims – A Special Book Launch At Chai

On Sunday 25th October, Stephen Miller celebrated the launch of his fourth book, The Milaric Maxims, surrounded by his closest friends and family members at Chai’s flagship centre in Hendon.

Stephen, who writes under the pseudonym J D Milaric, has spent over 18 months bringing the book to life. The book, a collection of poetry, proverbs and jokes for Jewish folk, is dedicated in memory of his late wife Diane z’l.

Lucy Hayim, Chai’s Community and Corporate Fundraiser, welcomed guests and introduced Stephen, reflecting on how special it was for him to be back in the very room at Chai where he first met his partner Hilary at Chai’s Bereavement Support Group.

Speaking at the launch, Stephen described the occasion as “one of the proudest moments of my life” and explained why supporting Chai through his book is so important to him.

“This afternoon brings together three of the most important aspects of my life today: my love for Hilary, my hobby and passion for writing together with my admiration for, and gratitude to Chai.

“Chai means so much to Hilary and myself. I care deeply about supporting what they do because they care so deeply about supporting us.”

Stephen shared a selection of poems, jokes and other extracts from the book, before signing copies for those attending.

He also paid tribute to Hilary for her patience and support throughout the writing process, and to his friend Kelvin Graham for his invaluable assistance in bringing the book to life.

With hopes of reaching as many readers as possible, Stephen encouraged guests to spread the word and help support Chai through sales of the book, fittingly declaring: “Am Yisrael Chai!”
