Young Fundraisers Reach New Heights for Chai on B’nei Mitzvah Charity Challenge

Five B’nei Mitzvah children and their parents took on an unforgettable adventure as they conquered both Blencathra and Helvellyn in the Lake District, raising £14,420 for Chai.

Over the course of the weekend, the group tackled two of the Lake District’s most iconic peaks, encouraging one another across challenging terrain and celebrating every achievement together.

Seb Rose said: “I had a great weekend, a brilliant experience and so pleased I could raise money for an amazing cause in memory of my Uncle Dan.”

For many parents, the challenge was about much more than reaching the summit.

Elli Morris, whose son Reuben took part, said: “The B’nei Mitzvah Challenge isn’t the endurance-and-self-achievement story most charity challenges are. We spent the weekend bonding as a group and then watched our children – in awe – scramble across cliff edges and ridges, then motivate each other (and their own struggling parents) through, celebrating only once the whole group made it.

Chai Cancer Care work the same way: their focus isn’t the patient alone, but everyone travelling the journey with them – there to catch them at every fall. We chose Chai because the B’nei Mitzvah Challenge experience demonstrates to our children exactly what it means to be a community: to experience highs and lows together, to feel affected when one person suffers, and to be there to catch them.”

Harry Masser added: “The B’nei Mitzvah Challenge is incredible and it really is a challenge! If you’re thinking of doing it next year, then I’d say to go for it 100 per cent. The leaders were amazing, the spirit was great and we all feel we massively accomplished something in addition to raising money for our charities. I’m proud to have done this for Chai.”

The B’nei Mitzvah Charity Challenge in aid of Chai gives young people celebrating their Bar or Bat Mitzvah the opportunity to mark this important milestone by taking on a personal challenge while raising funds to support anyone in our community affected by a cancer diagnosis.
