Love Chai’s ‘Challah Braiding and Beats’

More than 80 ladies danced and sang the night away at a challah braiding workshop with a twist. The event entitled, ‘Challah Braiding and Beats’ raised more than £3,000 for Chai’s Child Therapy sessions.

On arrival at Kinloss, guests were treated to cocktails and delicious treats from Oh Brown Bear before Challah Mummy, Allegra Benitah, took to the stage to host the challah braiding fiesta.

Starting with the traditional blessing over making challah this was anything but your average challah braiding event. Whilst learning how to roll and twist challah dough into a beautiful design, guests enjoyed the biggest hits and cheesiest classics played by DJ Dan Kraines – there was even a rolling pin conga line!

During the evening, guests had a chance to hear from Porto & Bello founder and Chai Client Alexia Baron. She said: “We’re here tonight for something which is incredibly close to my heart – Child Therapy at Chai. In March 2020, 29 years old and 34 weeks pregnant, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The world shut down, I was pregnant, and my two-and-a-half-year old’s world was upside-down. The only consistency in our lives was Chai. My son was able to see a Music Therapist every Friday who made him smile from ear to ear. I am forever grateful to Chai.”

Caroline Tunkel, Chair of the Love Chai Committee said: “The event was full of atmosphere and rolling pins! It was so great to have DJ Dan Kraines, a loyal supporter of Chai on the decks and a huge thank you to Challah Mummy Allegra Benita and to Alexia Baron for sharing her inspiring story with us all.”
