Manchester’s ‘A Week for Chai’ raises over £4,000 for Chai in the North West

Between the 15th – 22nd May, the North West community came together to take part in the annual ‘A Week for Chai’. A week-long fundraising initiative that encourages people of all ages to host an event or take on a challenge to raise much needed awareness and funds in aid of Chai’s norther hub.

Kicking off the week on Sunday 15th May was a FUNKIDS bootcamp session run by Chai Fundraiser for the North West, Jilly Berens. 19 kids took part in different exercises and drills including boxing, planks, and cardio.

Jane Mechlowitz, long-term member of the ‘Chai Girls’ committee hosted a Coffee Morning at her home on Friday 20th May. Guests were treated to a range of baked goods including cookies, brownies, a delectable range of cakes and freshly baked Challahs. The afternoon raised a sweet £2,000.

Jane said: “Chai is a charity very close to my heart. Especially since I was a client myself 10 years ago. It has and continues, to help and support thousands of cancer patients and their families who would have no one else to turn to. A true lifeline!! When I was asked to host the coffee morning for ‘A Week for Chai’, I jumped at the chance! After all, what is a home for …? It should be used for Simchas and to help raise money for such incredibly worthy causes such as Chai.”

The Coffee Morning also provided the ideal launch event for ‘Manchester’s Finest’ a brand new and exclusive cookbook with recipes and cocktail ideas collated from its namesake – Manchester’s finest chefs, caterers, and culinary experts.

Completing the week was Lucie Wolfenden who joined thousands of runners and took on the Manchester Half Marathon. Lucie surpassed her £1,500 target by raising an impressive £1,705!

Chai’s Chairman, Louise Hager, said: “Well done to everyone who took part! Each event is an opportunity for the community to find out about Chai and our specialised services. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who was involved in making the week a success once again. Thank you for helping us ensure that Chai’s Big C of Care can continue to make a tangible difference to all those who turn to us. In the North West”
